Biography
Christopher McAteer (b.1988) is a composer, writer, and academic from the north coast of Northern Ireland. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, his work has been performed across the UK and Ireland, receiving awards including the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize (2013) and West Cork Festival Composition Bursary (2014). During 2015, he wrote the libretto and score for a new opera based on the life of Roger Casement, with funding from Arts Council Ireland. He was a Moving on Music Emerging Artist during 2017/18. He is a PhD student in Social and Political Thought at York University, Toronto, focusing on world politics, aesthetics, and environmental humanities. Working within an interdisciplinary approach, he is interested in imaginaries of the Circumpolar North and climate change.
